 Errani

Sara Errani and Andrea Petkovic will meet in the third round of the French Open on Saturday morning in what should be an intriguing contest. This is the fourth time these two competitors meet on the professional tour, and the first time since last year’s French Open. Petkovic leads the head-to-head series 2-1.

In one of the early matches of the day, Sara Errani defeated Carina Witthoeft in three sets to advance to the following stage of the tournament. She converted 10 breaks of serve and hit 30 winners and 24 unforced errors to close out the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. It was a solid performance from Errani, who has not been herself much so far this season.

Later on in the day, Germany’s Andrea Petkovic also needed three sets to advance to the following stage of the tournament. She defeated Dominguez Lino with 44 winners and 50 unforced errors, as well as six break points. Eventually, she pulled off a final scoreline of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Petkovic will now advance to the third round, where she will meet Errani once again on the tour, even though it is several rounds earlier than their meeting at Roland Garros last season.

The last time these two competitors crossed paths on the professional tour was last season at the French Open, which Petkovic won in rapid-fire straight sets. This will likely be a tough three set battle, and considering both competitors have been come into form on clay, it is certainly a tough one to call. Petkovic is the favourite on paper due to her ranking, but it is very likely that Errani could produce a big win to reach the second week in Paris.
