Eugenie Bouchard‘s 2015 struggles continued with a three set loss to Kristina Mladenovic 6-3 3-6 6-0 at the WTA Birmigham tournament. It marks the tenth loss in eleven matches for the Canadian star.

She was up against an opponent full of confidence after an impressive serving performance in victory over Alison Riske yesterday. It wasn’t quite the 13 ace performance of yesterday for Mladenovic but she continued to serve well, winning over 70% of her points on first serve and saving 9 of the 10 break points she faced throughout the match, only surrendering serve once at *3-3 during a brief period where Bouchard looked to have turned the match round.

Bouchard would serve out the second set before manufacturing a break point at the beginning of the third. Mladenovic would save it before holding, with the match getting away very quickly from Bouchard thereafter. Two in opportune double faults saw her face 0-40, a position from which she couldn’t recover.

The pair met just a few weeks ago at the French Open with Mladenovic winning that one in straights to equal her best performance at the French Open but arguably this was a better performance despite losing a set this time. The decider went very quickly at just 26 minutes, finished off with a double fault to complete a love break and with it the bagel.

Mladenovic will play Barbara Zahlavova Strycova for the opportunity to make her second quarter final in as many weeks after losing to Belinda Bencic at the same stage of the Topshelf Open in Netherlands.

Having scheduled tournaments in each of the three weeks leading up to Wimbledon, Bouchard only has Eastbourne to count on for extra matches and much needed wins before she looks to avoid taking too much of a ranking hit with finals points to defend at Wimbledon.
