Klizan, Mannarino Advance To Metz Second Round
Seventh seed Adrian Mannarino recorded his 25th match win of the season at the Moselle Open Tuesday. The World No. 39, a semi-finalist in 2008, defeated qualifier Vincent Millot 6-2, 7-5 in 83 minutes.
Vasek Pospisil bounced back from a US Open first round exit (l. to Haider-Maurer) with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Aleksandr Nedovyesov. He’ll next face sixth seed Martin Klizan, making his debut at the tournament, who was leading 6-7(1), 6-3, 3-2 when Paul-Henri Mathieu retired due to an Achillis injury after one hour and 55 minutes of play.
Edouard Roger-Vasselin, with an 0-2 record in ATP World Tour finals, beat fellow qualifier and Frenchman Kenny de Schepper 6-4, 7-6(2) for a second round match against two-time former champion Gilles Simon, the second seed.
Fernando Verdasco beat young gun Alexander Zverev 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-3 to move into the second round. The eighth seed struck 13 aces and saved all seven break points faced in the two-hour, 11-minute battle.
