Top seeds into semi-finals
Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan beat Sam Groth and Robert Lindstedt 6-4, 7-6(3) to move into the semi-finals of the Mercedes Cup on Thursday. The top seeds dropped only six points on serve and have yet to be broken in their first trip to Stuttgart. The Americans are aiming for a record 113rd tour-level title as a team. Their semi-final opponents will be Oliver Marach and Fabrice Martin, who upset third seeds John Peers and Bruno Soares 7-5, 6-4 in 75 minutes.
Second seeds Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau downed Florian Mayer and Philipp Oswald 6-3, 6-4 in just over an hour to secure a spot in the semi-finals. The Romanians broke serve three times and closed out the win in 63 minutes.
Top Seeds Bounced In ‘s-Hertogenbosch
Gilles Muller teamed with Frederik Nielsen to upset top seeds Rohan Bopanna and Nicolas Mahut 6-3, 7-5 for a place in the semi-finals. It was the second match of the day for Muller, who is also still in singles contention. Muller/Nielsen saved four of five break points faced and converted all three break points against the Bopanna/Mahut serve.
Next up will be third seeds Dominic Inglot and Raven Klaasen, 6-4, 6-1 winners over Johan Brunstrom and Andreas Siljestrom. Mate Pavic and Michael Venus are already into the final courtesy of a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky.
