China Open: Kyle Edmund beats Roberto Bautista Agut and could face Andy Murray
Kyle Edmund set up a potential quarter-final against Andy Murray by beating Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4 4-6 6-4 at the China Open.
The British qualifier broke the Spanish world number 18 in the seventh game of the third set to set up the victory.
Edmund, 21, provisionally moved into the world’s top 50 after a first-round win over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
He will face Davis Cup team-mate Murray next in Beijing if the world number two beats Andrey Kuznetsov on Tuesday.
Earlier, British number one Johanna Konta boosted her hopes of reaching the WTA Finals in Singapore by beating Hungary’s Timea Babos 7-5 6-2 to reach the third round of the women’s event in Beijing.
Meanwhile, in the Japan Open, Britain’s Dominic Inglot and his Dutch partner Jean-Julien Rojer were beaten 6-3 6-3 in the quarter-finals by Marcel Spain’s Granollers and Marcin Matkowski or Poland.
