Reiterating his comments from earlier this year in London, John McEnroe added to his praise of World No. 1 Novak Djokovic by proclaiming him to be one of the great champions of all time in men’s tennis. He also added that he is more than capable of winning Roland Garros in the coming year.

“He has become one of the greats of all time,” McEnroe told Reuters. “He is going to be there a couple more years. He looks so rock solid, it’s incredible.”

Djokovic won seven titles in 2014, and compiled a 61-8 record throughout the season. He won the Wimbledon Championships for the second time in his career, as well as the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Considering his dominance over the past few months, McEnroe believes the Serbian is more than capable of completing the Career Grand Slam by winning the French Open title.

“If Rafa is not healthy, that might open the door for him to win the French Open,” McEnroe says. “I would say the greatest players that ever lived are Roger, Rafa, my idol Rod Laver and Pete Sampras. “I wouldn’t put him there yet but in the top 10 and maybe he is moving higher as each minute goes (by). The good news (is that) he is getting better, and by the time I was his age I was getting worse!”

British No. 1 Andy Murray clearly struggled with his return following back surgery, Unless there is a drastic improvement in 2015, this can only bode well for the Serbian star.

“He has played too much,” he said. “I am assuming he is on the verge of burnout. Andy at his best, physically, would seem to cover the court, speed-wise, the best. (But) he looked tired in London.”

Djokovic will begin his season at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in January before he heads over to Melbourne in quest for his fifth Australian Open title.
