Querrey Storms Into Los Cabos SFs
Berdych plays Mannarino on Thursday
Second seed Sam Querrey has rounded into form at Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex, cruising into the semi-finals with an impressive 6-1, 6-3 win over Frenchman Vincent Millot.
“I felt like I played aggressive and did everything right, so that felt good,” said Querrey. “It’s going to get tougher from here, but if I play like I did tonight, I’ll have a good shot in the next round.”
The 31-year-old Millot, currently No. 165 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, already enjoyed a career-best week in reaching his first ATP World Tour quarter-final. However, he struggled to find answers to the American’s big serving. Querrey didn’t face a break point as he advanced in exactly one hour.
The match was a swift turnaround for Querrey, who needed a final-set tie-break on Wednesday to defeat American qualifier Evan King. Querrey has already enjoyed success this year in Mexico, defeating Rafael Nadal in March to take the title in Acapulco.
Next up for the veteran is fourth seed Feliciano Lopez or Damir Dzumhur.
Cabal/Huey Advance To Final Four
Second seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Treat Huet moved into the semi-finals over Blaz Kavcic and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 7-5, 6-3. They’ll play fourth seeds Purav Raja and Divij Sharan after the Indian duo defeated Wesley Koolhof and Artem Sitak 6-3, 6-4.
