Rain Pushes Newport Quarter-finals To Friday
All quarter-final action at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island, will take place on Friday after rain caused the cancellation of Thursday’s matches.
Only one singles match got underway, with Spaniard Marcel Granollers taking a 6-3 lead against German Mischa Zverev before the rain began to fall. Last year, Granollers made the semi-finals in Newport before falling to eventual champion Steve Johnson.
In the lone completed match of the day, Marcelo Arevalo and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela beat Bradley Klahn and Denis Kudla 6-3, 6-3 in 62 minutes. The 2018 Los Cabos titlists are pursuing their first ATP Tour trophy of the season. They will play fourth seeds Ben McLachlan and John-Patrick Smith or Nicholas Monroe and Zverev in the semi-finals.
