Thiem, Zverev, Fognini Lead Charge In Hamburg; When Is The Draw & More

All about the ATP 500 tennis tournament in Hamburg, Germany

A trio of Top 10 players – Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev, and Fabio Fognini – headline the 2019 Hamburg European Open, an ATP Tour 500 clay-court tournament.

Zverev, who was born in Hamburg, returns to his hometown tournament for the first time since 2016. He achieved his best result here five years ago as a 17-year-old, when he made a run to the semi-finals (l. to Ferrer). World No. 4 Thiem will look to improve upon last year’s quarter-final finish, while Fognini will look to reclaim the title he won in 2013.

Eight players in the field have triumphed at clay-court events in 2019: Juan Ignacio Londero (Cordoba), Marco Cecchinato (Buenos Aires), Laslo Djere (Rio de Janeiro), Cristian Garin (Houston, Munich), Fognini (Monte-Carlo), Thiem (Barcelona), Benoit Paire (Marrakech, Lyon) and Zverev (Geneva). Defending champion Nikoloz Basilashvili, two-time winner Leonardo Mayer and 2016 titlist Martin Klizan also return to Hamburg.
