Wawrinka through to last four on his 10th visit to Canada
Second seed Stan Wawrinka will attempt to reach his fourth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final on Saturday at the Rogers Cup against third seed Kei Nishikori or Grigor Dimitrov.
Wawrinka overcame former World No. 10 Kevin Anderson 6-1, 6-3 in 74 minutes on Friday in their third match on Canadian soil (Wawrinka leads 2-1).
Wawrinka got off to a perfect start by opening up a 4-0 lead against Anderson, who endured a 10-week injury layoff earlier in the season. The Swiss star broke for a third time to seal the 30-minute opener and, in a competitive second set, converted his second break point opportunity for a 5-3 advantage. Wawrinka hit 14 winners and lost only five of his first service points.
Anderson, who underwent minor ankle surgery on 15 March, is now 0-7 lifetime in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 quarter-finals. Wawrinka is now 31-10 on the season, hunting for his 15th ATP World Tour title.
